Notes from Kristen

It's official: on December 1, we moved into the 'Elementary House'! The Elementary children, Pat and I worked very hard to get our classroom materials, shelves, tables, etc. transferred into their new home. This is a very exciting time for us; if you would like to come in for a visit or observation, please do -- the excitement is palpable! If you are unable to make a weekday visit please join us on Saturday, December 10th from 10:00 - noon for a current and prospective family Open House.

The children have been enjoying our time in the woods with Earthwalk's Annika, Ryan and Eli. The children have found 'sit spots', enjoyed songs, prepared a fire pit and played many games. Be sure to ask your children about their experiences! We have also been very busy preparing for our self-written play that has come together quite beautifully, thanks to Ariel. We have conducted private rehearsal sessions where the children have been able to explore their characters a bit further and get feedback from others. It has certainly been an enriching experience.

We have been delving deeply into the study of the earth and it's parts (barysphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and atmosphere), as well as further study of the Clock of Eras as our beginning to the Timeline of Life. The children - as always - have been busy studying math strategies with our materials, exploring our language through writing and learning to 'live' together peacefully. We decided as a group to donate our leftover cider to the Women's and Children's Unit at Central Vermont Medical Center. The children democratically put forth ideas, voted and accepted the outcome without complaint!

Happy Holidays to one and all! Please remember to schedule your observations if you haven't already done so and be sure to give me at least 24 hours notice so that I'll be prepared for you!
