Center School Montessori

The Center School's lovely one-room schoolhourse was built in 1866 as a Vermont Standard School. Located on a hill side on the Upper Road in Plainfield, it housed one of several village public schools for several generations.

In the late 1960s the school was closed as the Plainfield and Marshfield supervisory union centralized their schools and Twinfield Union School was built.

The Center School Playgroup was formed in 1970, opening a preschool/daycare in the building, which served the community for the next 30 years.

In 2000, the schoolhouse became the home of the Center School Montessori project, now serving children ages two-and-a-half to six.
